WE ARE OFFICIALLY CLOSED FOR THE 2017 FLOAT SEASON!
Remmel Dam releases water almost year round so floating/paddling the Lower Ouachita River in the summer season is great when many other Arkansas (and surrounding states) rivers run dry or too low to paddle.
Down to the Rockport Ledge the Ouachita River will be a casual flat water float/paddle trip of about 5.3 miles that almost anybody can enjoy. Below Rockport Ledge the river returns to its placid self for the remaining 30 miles down to Arkadelphia.
The only place where there is more than a class I riffle is just above the take-out where there is a river-spanning ledge that creates several choices of channels to choose from. On extreme river-right is Tiger's Jaw, a technical class III while across the majority of the rest of the river are several unnamed class II chutes, the easiest of which is the one on extreme river-left.
